Sister Marie Ellen Foltz was born September 22, 1917 in Derby Kansas. She was a small child when the family moved to Dalhart, Texas, where she grew up. She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1935. She and W.O. Culbertson Jr. were married December 28, 1940 whereupon she joined her husband on the ranch in Harding County, New Mexico. In 1950, the family moved to the newly acquired Park Springs Ranch in San Miguel County, New Mexico, there “M. E.” ranched with her husband, raised her family, and served her community, until retiring in 1983 with W.O. to a small livestock farm near Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Marie Ellen was initiated into Mizpah Chapter No. 47, Order of the Eastern Star, on June 24, 1948, later taking dual membership with Ransford Chapter No. 2 in Las Vegas. She served Ransford Chapter as Worthy Matron twice. Her service to Grand chapter includes District Instructor, Grand Ruth, Grand Representative to Manitoba, Grand Marshal and was elected to the Grand line in 1978. Wayne E. Fisher was her Worthy Grand Patron.
She is survived by her four children: W.O. Culbertson III and wife Sue, Myles Culbertson and wife Georgia, Cary Culbertson and Jane Ellen Jones and husband Bill, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many sorrowing friends.
